DEPARTMENT OF HINDI


Overview

In the city of Dharwad, multi-lingual and rich in culture, Hindi language has been most prevalent after Kannada. J. S. S. The college has several departments of Arts, Commerce and Science, but four language departments have special identity. Among them, Hindi department has been the highest place in the language as Hindi is National Language, Official Language and Public Communication Language. In the year 1958, Hindi Department was established with the vision of not only to connect North India and South India, but also to enable Hindi to be recognized at the international level. Since the first head of the department, Prof. Gurunath Joshi got his new identity, till the present HOD, (Dr.) Smt. G. S. Khaji, many heads of the departments have worked towards the spread of the Hindi language and motivating the students from across the state and beyond. As a result of this, today Hindi language seems to be moving towards development. Dr Khaji took the fame of the department to the next level after she took over the responsibility in Dec 2003. Her sensitivity has brought many changes for the students continued till today. To connect the students with the creative angle she started the annual magazine named 'Sahitya Alok' which is an ongoing annual event. Dr. (Smt.) Nalini D. Kulkarni and Dr. Taru S Pawar have contributed to this journey to a great extent. In addition, Dr. Mallikarjun N. has also been remarkable in this subject.
