The need for Distance Education was felt and the IGNOU was formed by an act of Parliament, in 1985. To provide distance education in the North Karnataka region, JSS Study Center 1303 was established in the year 1987 and has provided a separate building, consisting of a library, lecturer halls, a modern seminar hall and a modern computer lab for IGNOU. Weekend classes as well as contact programmes are conducted. Highly versatile facility is provided to the students and a big collection of audio and video are available to them.

Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) JSS Study Center, Dharwad
By looking into the educational requirement of the State and to make it accessible to the people, so that they can pursue their course of choice from their place of residence, the Karnatak State government established this KSOU in the year 1996. This became the eighth, Open University in India.
Well-equipped library audio-visual facilities, dish antenna to view programmers’ through satellite, creative faculty headed by the coordinator, infuse a sense of security in the learners.
