DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION


Overview

Department of education was established during June 1976 by an act of Karnataka University with view to democratize education. The subject Education for UG level was considered as one of the minor subject till 2005. Hence 2005-2006 onwards new system of education was implemented that is semester system.


Until 2005, Prof R.M Kavishwar, prof Nalini Sankeshwar, Prof Saraswati, Prof Tilotama worked as a temporarty part- time and stop- gap lecturer till 1989. Later on Dr (Smt) Indu L Pandit joined on 8th August 1989 as a stop- Gap Lecturer, Wherein there was no Subject aid and the department of Education was considered purely as one- man department which had only 07 students at BA part I, II, III. The subject was considered as an un-aided one without seeking any grants from the government. During such time in 1994 all the un-aided subject teacher's went on strike for demanding an aid to the subject and regularised appointment. Later on during april 1994 the subject education was considered as an aided subject, and the education post was regularised hence Dr (Smt) Indu l Pandit was permanently appointed as an UGC employee considering the service from 15/06/1991 without claiming any arrears from 1991 to march-1994.

Education department individually has well equipped infrastructure, department library and so on. It has well equipped and organised lesson plan, mentorship, wall magazine, remedial class, work diary, students project work, assignments, seminar, Guest lecturers, question bank , question paper, notes pertaining to the course.



Department has made every arrangement to impart effective education to the students. It has maintained good relationship with respect to academic and administrative matters. After successfully completion of UG course the students who has taken education subject at UG level as an Optional Subject may further pursue B Ed , M Ed, MA an appear for competitive exams and may be teacher at school, pre university, UG level and so on.


Two Internal Test for 20 marks and 80 marks for Theory is conducted during semesters, students update knowledge by internal test, theory, assignments, seminars, presentations, enrichment course, guest lecture etc. A Teacher of education has wide scope and master over the methods of Teaching when compared. Present curriculum prepares "Budding Teachers" "would be Teacher" to incorporate different methods of teaching, Teaching aids, charts, ICT, PPTss, and hence the students are provided with effective knowledge for future Teachers training like BA, B Ed. Department makes every effort to inculcate morals and values among the students which is the basic aspect of the whole Education for Life. A teacher occupies the position of focal importance in the present scenario.
